Committed Legal Support
Professional Background and Education
Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, Ajla moved to Nelson with her mom and sister in 1995. She attended Trafalgar Middle School and graduated from LV Rogers in 2001. From an early age, she had an interest in law and was fascinated by courtroom drama, aspiring to pursue a law degree.
Professional Background and Education
In 2005, Ajla graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology from Simon Fraser University. Before continuing with a law degree, she decided to gain practical experience by working in a busy law office in Nelson. After a year, she found herself enjoying the behind-the-scenes operations and legal support work.
Ajla has worked as a legal assistant since September 2005 and became a Designated Paralegal in 2016 after the Law Society of BC approved rule changes allowing BC paralegals to perform additional duties under a lawyer’s supervision.
Extensive Legal Experience
Ajla’s extensive experience includes managing all aspects of the process on family files, whether it be litigation or through a collaborative process such as mediation. She works closely with clients throughout the process and is actively involved in strategizing and implementing the right solutions. Ajla also plays an active role in resolving disputes at mediation, both as a support to counsel and in her capacity as a designated paralegal.
Ajla is highly experienced in all aspects of the litigation process, including drafting pleadings, preparing chambers applications, gathering and summarizing evidence, interviewing witnesses, assisting with trial preparation, and providing trial support.
Commitment to Professional Growth
In constant pursuit of higher learning, Ajla diligently keeps up with current laws, procedures, and litigation techniques. She attends various courses and seminars on a variety of topics each year and networks with other professionals in her field to better serve our clients.
Community Involvement
Ajla volunteers her time in the community and is most involved in Nelson Minor Hockey, where she sits on the Board of Directors. When not at the office, you will probably find her at one of the hockey arenas throughout BC, cheering on her son’s minor hockey team.

Ajla is married and has one son. Her other child, Sophie, is the furry kind and is also a frequent presence at Watson & Company. She enjoys traveling, especially to her home country of Bosnia and Croatia, as well as cooking, baking, and drinking wine.
